At Pentecost, the church celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church. Jesus has ascended into heaven, but He promised not to leave us orphans. That promise was made good at Pentecost.
But how do we 21st Century people understand the gift of the Holy Spirit? Isn't Pentecost all about speaking in tongues? Well, no. What it IS about is a present experience of God in our lives here and now. Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte, Kentucky, was built on the casting floor of a 19th Century iron blast furnace. We use "The Casting Floor" as an image for the power of the Spirit to form us. Visit us at http://communitypresbyterian.org.
