The two Gospels with infancy narratives, Matthew and Luke, go to great pains to demonstrate the awesomeness of the event. Stars move. Angels sing. Even Herod the Horrible is aware that something has rocked his world. We get caught up in the majesty and tend to forget how commonplace the event was -- the birth of a baby, to a young girl, far from home. This is where God acts -- in the commonplace -- because God's creation is the common place where the human and the divine meet. Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte, Kentucky, was built on the casting floor of a 19th Century iron blast furnace. We use "The Casting Floor" as an image for the power of the Spirit to form us. Visit us at http://communitypresbyterian.org.
